Mary Alice talks about masks, which can be found in any home. Some are used on Halloween (at the Scavo's, for instance). Some are needed to protect yourself from paint fumes (Mike's). And some are applied every other Thursday (Gaby). Then there is a mask that some men (Creepy Dave) wear every day: It's a friendly smile hiding his wicked intentions.
And every other people wears a mask too. Including me. There's mask to shadow the truth. Not all are prepared to know some intimate part of my life. There's a mask to blend into the crowd. Smile and laughter to cheer family and friends up at own saddest moments. And a mask one wears alone on matters of self denial, anxiety or calmness.
Towards the ending of that episode...
Mary Alice starts in about how everyone wears a mask, so you must look closely to see the truth underneath. Some conceal anxiety about growing older (Lynette). Some hide fears of financial ruin (Gaby). Some cover up a love that continues to linger (Mike, who's giving Katherine a ring). And there are those who let their masks slip.
A moment of awkward reactions and embarrassments of my naked self, from a slipped mask.
Note: On an unrelated note, the above mask was a souvenir presented to me by my Chinese colleagues during my visit to their Tianjin office last year. Just to blend in with the blog entry.

i sometimes wonder if we wear masks because we are forced to or we choose to.....hmmmmmmm..........deep thoughts eh?!......wat u think har roommate? :).......good idea to write a post on my blog heheehhe........i have to start watching desperate housewives hehehe..
Its very hard to find a person who is true to him/herself nowadays (alone or out in the crowd). We were all stereotyped and live to satisfy others or societal expectation. sad yet very much true.
True, we wear a mask to fit the social situation. :(
they have tat ep? i only concentrate on eva longoria haha:)
its true we wear a mask, if not the whole world will turn topsy turvy cos most of it is build up by lies:(
Manglish has got a good point. We wear masks, sometimes forcibly and due to good and bad reasons. It's the external forces that we have been yearning so much at times to fit into that gives rise to the masks.
Still, wearing a mask for positive reasons is acceptable, i feel!

Well...I believe all of us have different masks to put on every day! It's a norm and we have been living with these "so-called" masks since we were born. Call this social conditioning! :D
well everybody does wear a mask. oh i think I got what you meant about the awkward reaction
as long as the masks are appropriate, i don't see any problem with it. keep it pleasant what.
i usually dont like masks..

Took me sometime to think about it. The mask is actually for others not to see the real us; to protect the sense of insecurity and secrets inside us, which I think is absolutely fine. However, some people might have bad intention behind the mask; those are who we need to beware of.
@manglish: hmmmm... we do that when it's needed in the situation lor.. hope u enjoy watch the series too.
@susan: i agree to.
@lina: i think it's a social need.
@kelvin: eva? hmmm... i need to keep a note on that.
@anton: yes, for positive stuffs.
@tekkaus: exactly...
@boris: lolx... i think u do...
@medie: true.
@kenwooi: theatrical ones are nice.
@kenny: yes... wolf under the sheep skin.
Funny you talked about this. I attended a self improvement seminar one time, and they taught us not to wear masks but be authentic.
Well, I guess sometimes we need the masks, don't we? I can't be authentic all the time. It's just how life is. But I wonder how life would be if everyone shreds his/her mask : )
@foongpc: I'll think it's just total chaos.
