Brida Book Review

Honestly, this is one book I've decided to buy after reading the synopsis at the back cover of the book. I was captivated by the short description and I was curious what philosophical ideas about Soulmate that Paulo Coelho is going to write. All these time, most of the books I have were from recommendation of friends or the best seller chart.

The story revolves mainly on Brida from Dublin that was intrigued with the knowledge of witch crafting. She went to a forest, met up Magus and the Magus felt in love with her. During the course of her training with the Magus, Brida met up another witch, name Wicca and Brida learned a lot from her. And the story goes further that Wicca and Magus were once lovers. Brida has a boyfriend name Loren. Then Magus confessed his love with Brida. Brida got to know Wicca is Magus ex lover; and Magus found out that Brida has a boyfriend. Even though from the witch craft revelation that Brida is Magus soulmate, he sacrifice himself and distanced himself from Brida, so that Brida can be together with Lorens. And Wicca? she has moved on.

A complex love story between Magus, Wicca, Brida and Lorens!!

And at the final chapter of the book, here's a deep thought about Love...

'People give flowers as presents because flowers contain the true meaning of Love. Anyone who tries to possess a flower will have to watch its beauty fading. But if you simply look at a flower in a field, you will keep it forever, because flower is part of the evening and the sunset and the smell of damp earth and the clouds on the horizon.'

You understand what's trying to say? Well.. I do, I least I think I do.

    @jeremy: yes, one of them.

    @manglish: it means that lovers are not to be possessive. And love is not about with the person but also incorporates all the physical senses, the memories of good and bad, appreciation and also the ability to let go when the time comes in order to have the best memory of love remains.

  13. la.leche says:

    I'm surprised Brida didn't end up being with Magus, instead, Magus let her go because he knew she was never his, that's why he can lose her anytime. I was expecting a nice ending. Loren's character's pretty quiet. Magus would be a nicer and interesting soulmate for Brida 'cuz you know he knows both, the tradition of Sun and Moon while Loren couldn't even care less what happened at the ritual, and Magus knows Brida will never or can forget him. Have you tried reading other books by Coelho? They're awesome :D

  14. pikey says:

    @la.leche: thanks for the great info!
